Egmont Key Ferry
Because Egmont Key is located out in Tampa Bay, the only access is via boat. It might be possible to hang-glide off the Sunshine Skyway bridge, but (a) it's probably illegal and (b) getting back home might be difficult. We've heard of people kayaking from Fort Desoto to Egmont Key, but frankly after seeing the heavy duty container ship traffic in the channel you need to cross, we think they're crazy. :-)
A number of companies offer ferry service to and from Egmont Key if you don't have your own boat.
Our favorite is Hubbard's Marina which offers service from beautiful Fort Desoto for around $20 (round trip) and they also have an optional snorkeling side trip to the ruins of the fort at Egmont Key that are underwater. http://www.hubbardsmarina.com/um/egmont.html
